What Goes Where When it Comes to My Nonprofit’s Social Media?
There are so many different social media platforms, and it feels like everyday new components are being thrown at us. We know the classic popular platforms are Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. But, now, there is TikTok, Pintrest, WhatsApp and many more. So, how do Nonprofits know which of these platforms to use and what do you post where? We're going to break down all of that for you.
Which social media platforms should my organization be using?
Facebook is a must. There are 2.41 billion monthly users on Facebook and 9 out of 10 nonprofit organizations are on Facebook. Facebook is a huge ally to Nonprofits, especially during these times.
Instagram is strongly suggested. According to Adobe, in 2020 Instagram is the social media platform to pay attention to. People love Instagram because it's fun and simple to use. It's a great place for organizations to show their personalities through photos, memes and stories.
Twitter is up to the discretion of your Nonprofit. If your organization has an active blog- you should absolutely have a Twitter to circulate those posts. If your organization is about creating awareness, then you should also have a Twitter. Twitter is all about short and quick actions.
LinkedIn is strongly suggested. LinkedIn helps support the legitimacy of your organization. Not to mention, out of LinkedIn's 260 million monthly users, many of those are professionals looking for volunteer opportunities for themselves or their company.
YouTube is up to the discretion of your Nonprofit. YouTube is another platform that some Nonprofits see as nonessential. Being, you can create videos and upload right to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. That works for some Nonprofits, but some nonprofits like the extra exposure on another platform that brings in 2 billion monthly users.
WhatsApp is up to the discretion of your Nonprofit. WhatsApp gives you the capability to text, call and video chat from all over the world. Smaller organizations and internationally based organizations are often the biggest users.
Pinterest is up to the discretion of your Nonprofit. If your organization is in the market of hosting activities, Pinterest can be something cool for you to try out. Pinterest has a huge market of teachers, parents and caregivers looking for activities to do with their children.
TikTok is up to the discretion of your Nonprofit. TikTok is not a new platform, it has recently seen a spike during Covid-19 bringing the total monthly users to 800 million. TikTok is really based on your organization's audience. If you are a nonprofit that works with teens, you should probably be downloading TikTok now.
